Mentos And A Seven Year Itch

Rheinfall Schaffhausen

Yodeling

Well now, picture this: there I was, minding my own business, when my dear wife comes up to me with news as curious as a cat in a roomful of rocking chairs. She tells me about a job opening in the far-off land of Switzerland and asks if I'd be willing to pack up our belongings and make a two-year sojourn to foreign shores. I reckon the situation called for some serious ponderin', so I scratched my head, chewed on a Mentos, and wondered about the trade-offs. What in tarnation would I be leavin' behind, and what in the Schnitzel would I be gainin'? Let's start with the leavin' part:

What I'd Be Sayin' Adieu To:

  • My occupation as a Credit Collections Supervisor down yonder in Atlanta, Georgia. A job as dull as watchin' paint dry on a white picket fence.
  • Fussin' and fumin' over police reports for stolen car stereos and them bicycles folks seem to fancy so much.
  • The dog days of southern summer, hotter than a chili pepper in a frying pan.
  • Bein' a stone's throw away from kith and kin, a comfort like grandma's homemade apple pie.
  • The ease of an American life, where folks speak in that good ol' American tongue.

What I'd Be Gaining, Bless My Lucky Stars:

  • A chance to dive headfirst into a brand-new culture, like a catfish takin' to water.
  • The experience of bein' a fish outta water, a foreigner in a foreign land - a true adventure.
  • Wranglin' with the German language, as strange and bewilderin' as cow tipping in Georgia.
  • Trekkin' through the majestic Alps, like a mountain goat on a mission.
  • Hittin' the dusty trail for a six-hour drive down to Florence, Italy, to visit friends.
  • Livin' in a place that's as picturesque as a postcard from, well, Switzerland.

Now, there's more to this tale than I can tell in one sittin'. This whole escapade unfolded back in 2007. I'd been rooted in Georgia for a spell, more than two decades to be exact. My missus, she gets the wanderlust every seven years or so, and we'd been scratchin' that itch by meanderin' within the borders of Georgia itself. But come 2007, the idea of somethin' radically different was like a siren's call we couldn't resist. We wound up in Schaffhausen, Switzerland, where the grandest waterfall in central Europe, known as Rheinfall, made quite the splash.

Would you believe it? We made a home of it for seven years, and in 2015, we hitched our wagons back to Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, like a pair of homesteaders returnin' to familiar territory.

But, my dear compatriots, the journey didn't end there. No sir, it had more twists and turns than a river serpent on a moonlit night. I embarked on online courses, learning the art of Web Development, Javascript, Node, and Graphic Design. While I was at it, I took on a hodgepodge of jobs - washin' windows, servin' tables, and teachin' English to Chinese youngsters a world away.

Web development has been my full-time gig for the past few years. It's a path as rugged as a country road, and as every small business owner knows, it takes grit and a steadfast commitment to tend to my clients. I don't just whip up websites and call it a day; I stick around to tweak 'em as the winds of change blow through.

My focus these days is right here in Wolfeboro and the Lakes Region, mostly by way of good old word-of-mouth. But I'll be hornswoggled if I turn my back on web projects from folks far and wide. In this digital age, distance is like a whisper in the wind, and I'm here to serve the web development needs of one and all.

So, if you're a small business owner in the Lakes Region, or anywhere else for that matter, look no further. Let's wrangle up some web magic together, like a couple of cowboys ridin' into the sunset.
